Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is a Canadian-based gold mining company that operates primarily in Canada, Finland, and Mexico. The company was founded in 1957 and is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. Agnico Eagle's primary business is the exploration, development, and production of gold. The company operates several mines and exploration projects, including the LaRonde Complex in Quebec, the Meadowbank Mine in Nunavut, the Meliadine Mine in Nunavut, and the Kittila Mine in Finland. Agnico Eagle also has a 50% interest in the Canadian Malartic Mine in Quebec, one of Canada's largest gold mines. The Macassa mine, located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Since its initial discovery in the area in 1911, gold has been a staple in the town’s history. Between 1905 and 1935, a multitude of mines opened in the area that produced collectively more than 23 million ounces of gold in the 20th century. In addition to gold, Agnico Eagle also produces silver, zinc, and copper as by-products of its mining operations. Agnico Eagle is known for its commitment to sustainability and responsible mining practices.
